Laser Dentistry

Technological advances are changing our lives every day. Lasers have been shown to have a profound benefit for both patients and clinician in all fields of medicine; dentistry is no different.

Lasers are changing the way we treat patients, providing a gentler, less invasive solution compared to traditional techniques.

Laser technology from Biolase is designed expressly for dental applications, and can be used in the treatment and management of periodontal (gum) disease, cosmetic treatments, minor oral surgery (including implant treatments), as well as restorative dentistry. Biolase dental lasers have been used to treat millions of patients worldwide.

At Cox and Hitchcock, we have a Waterlase iPlus® and diode laser , enabling us to offer a wide variety of treatment solutions.

The Waterlase iPlus® is a particularly versatile tool combining air, water and light energy to perfom very precise dental procedures.

Procedures include:

Smile Design

Contouring and shaping of the gum tissue can improve your smile by removing excess gum tissue that can give you a “gummy smile”, or make your front teeth appear irregular in size or shape. The Waterlase is a particularly versatile tool in smile design.

Removal of oral growths

Quick and safe removal of growths and excess tissue in your mouth, including gum tissue over a partly erupted tooth, small “tags” and growths such as polyps and fibromas can be efficiently removed and sent for pathological examination if appropriate.

Fix a “tongue tie” and help prevent gum recession

Fibrous tissue connections that restrict tongue movement, or exacerbate gum recession, can be “released” with less post- operative discomfort than traditional methods.

Periodontal (gum) disease

Even with the best hygiene and professional care, some people can still struggle with gum disease. The disease can also have a domino effect on your general health and wellbeing.

Waterlase dentistry gives us the ability to perform minimally invasive periodontal procedures to deliver better patient –reported outcomes than traditional methods, reducing the frequency of surgical intervention and promote tissue repair.

For moderate to severe gum disease, ask your dentist about REPAIR minimally invasive periodontal treatments.

Dental implants

As well as use in the various stages of implant delivery, the waterlase is particularly useful in the management of diseased implant in the treatment of peri-implanitis. The waterlase can be used in the treatment peri-implant disease offering an often faster, more effective, minimally invasive alternative to conventional surgical treatment techniques

We may also use lasers to perform other procedures that could benefit you. Feel free to ask your dentist for advice.
